Eddie Vedder Reveals Why Paul McCartney Once Punched Him Right in the Face
Paul McCartney, the former Beatle who once released an album called Pipes of Peace, probably doesn’t strike you as a man prone to violence. That’s what makes a story shared by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder on the SiriusXM Beatles channel all the more surprising. Vedder revealed that Sir Paul himself once punched him in the face. To be fair, it was an accident; it happened while McCartney was in a Seattle hotel bar telling a story about actually punching someone in the face.
Let’s let Vedder take it from here: “He kind of was illustrating how he hit this guy and when he did that he kind of shot out his left arm as if he was hitting this guy and I was standing there, and I got hit. He hit me! He didn’t quite pull back the punch you see … As I was listening I was thinking, Paul McCartney just hit me in the face and it hurt. I think I remember tasting a bit of blood, he got me right on the side of [the face]. And he apologized quickly so it wouldn’t get in the way of the story. I remember it hurt for a few days and I remember when it went away and the pain subsided and the swelling went down, I kinda missed it.”
Even when it’s an accident, McCartney apparently packs a serious punch. The great mystery is who McCartney once chose to punch in the face in order to prompt the story. And what could they possibly have done to compel him to do so?
